Where Desert Meets Turquoise Waters

Khor Al Adaid, also known as the Inland Sea, is located at the southern end of Qatar and you can see Saudi Arabia from there. It is magical in its colors and vastness; a feast for the eyes. There aren’t many places in the world where the desert meets the sea dune-on.

At Khor Al Adaid, a unique ecosystem evolved over time, where sea turtles, ospreys, cormorants, flamingos, desert foxes, and oryx stop by. At low tide, fossils of ancient sea life can be found. It’s an area steeped in human history, as pirates used the shallow waters extensively in the 19th century. Sadly today humans don’t leave good traces behind, we came across much trash on our way ; (

Heads up on timing and transport. I’d try to get there on the earlier side, for the best light and possible wildlife spotting. A driver with a 4×4 vehicle is needed to explore and visit this area, no paved roads lead to the Inland Sea. If you stay at Regency Sealine Camp, the team there can organize an outing for you, or you can chose from a number of outfitters in Doha.
